Getting a power

A syringe never gives you a Titan power. You get one by eating its holder while you are a Pure Titan, the way it works in the story. Each power has one holder at a time (see The Titans you can become).

  1. Fill an Empty Syringe with a Pure Titan’s spinal fluid.
  2. Inject yourself: you turn into a Pure Titan that you control.
  3. As that Pure Titan, eat a player or a villager who holds a power.
  4. You take the power, turn back into a human, and spend 10 seconds in the Paths.

Ackermans and Marleyans cannot do any of this: they are not Subjects of Ymir (see Bloodlines).

A player holding an Empty Syringe toward a Pure Titan lying on the ground, to draw its spinal fluid.
Empty Syringe
  • Tripwire Hook
  • Iron Nugget × 2
  • Glass × 2

Every syringe needs you to hold right-click for a second.

With an Empty Syringe You get
On a Pure Titan A Spinal Fluid Syringe filled with “Pure Titan’s Spinal Fluid”
On a villager who holds a power A syringe filled with the spinal fluid of that Titan power
Sneaking, on yourself (1 damage) Your own fluid. Only if you hold a power or are a Royal; otherwise “Nothing to extract”

These Pure Titans can be drained: the Titan, Small Titan, Small Titan 2, Fritz Titan, Titan Beard, Tropical Titan, Abnormal, Crawling Abnormal, Falco’s Pure Titan, Fatahh, Mario Titan, and Sawney. Connie’s Father, the Yellow Titan, the Sad Titan, and the Crawler Titan cannot.

Point at a syringe to see what it is “Filled with”. A Royal’s fluid shows in gold.

Sneak and hold right-click with a Spinal Fluid Syringe to inject yourself. Two or three seconds later you turn into a random Pure Titan, and you control it.

The injection is refused:

  • when the allowSelfInject rule is off
  • in the Paths
  • when you already hold a power
  • when you are an Ackerman or a Marleyan (“Only Subjects of Ymir can use this”)

While you are a Pure Titan:

  • If your Titan dies, you die with it.
  • Sneak for 3 seconds to give up: you die, and the game says you “became one with the Titans”.

Hold right-click on another player to inject them (“You have been injected with spinal fluid!”). They turn into a Pure Titan the next time they take 3 damage or more at once. It works on villagers too.

You cannot inject others when the injectOtherPlayers rule is off. You also cannot inject a player who holds a power, is already injected, or is an Ackerman or a Marleyan.

Hold the Spinal Fluid Syringe in your off hand and food or a drink in your main hand, then right-click: the food becomes “laced with Spinal Fluid” (one dose used). Whoever eats or drinks it is injected.

When a Pure Titan finishes eating someone who holds a power, that person loses it.

  • If a player controls that Pure Titan (an injected player), that player gets the power. The screen shows, for example, “You inherited the Attack Titan power!” They turn back into a human and get the advancement One of the nine.
  • If nobody controls it, the Pure Titan turns into a villager who carries the power.

Right after, the new holder spends 10 seconds in the Paths, then comes back where they were.

A shifter in Titan form who kills a villager carrying a power takes that power too.

With the villagersSpawnWithPowers rule (on by default), each village on Paradis spawns, once, a villager who holds a random power that no player has. Eat them as a Pure Titan to take it.

A villager with a power who dies any other way loses it: the power becomes free again.

Rule Default What happens
fairTitanPowerLoss on Dying does not remove your power: only being eaten does.
fairTitanPowerLoss off Holders of the Attack, Colossal, Armored, Beast, Female, and Warhammer Titans lose their power when they die. The Jaw and Cart Titans keep theirs.
shifterSnitching on The whole server sees “Attack Titan has been claimed” or “is now unclaimed”.

This needs the forceShifting rule on (off by default). If a holder in human form has 90% stamina or more and takes a hit that would kill them, they survive with 1 health and shift at once. They get Regeneration II, Absorption IV, and Fire Resistance, and the Titan starts at half health. It does not happen with Titan Stealth on, for the Cart Titan, or against damage that nothing can block.

With the YmirCurse rule on (off by default), holders of the Attack, Colossal, Armored, Beast, Female, and Warhammer Titans get the Curse of Ymir: a countdown of 13 Minecraft days (the ymirCurseDurationDays setting). When it ends, they get Wither I until they die. When they die, they lose the power and the countdown starts again. The Jaw and Cart Titans are not cursed.

  • /daot shifter set <players> <titan> gives a power, and /daot shifter remove <players> <titan> takes it back. See Commands.
  • With the multipleShifters rule off (the default), each power has one holder, and giving a power replaces the player’s other ones.
  • A shifter tag added another way (for example with /tag) is removed: powers must be given with /daot shifter set so the mod records them.
